Hi, Gambling is a known addiction, as in booze & various drugs.
Fortunatly, although I seem to like a beer or two, a small cigar, and a go on the Lotto thing, or the Grand National, I am not hooked by it all.
I have seen folks feeding tubs full of quarters into one-armed bandits until the wee hours of the morning. in Vegas.
Don’t they see that the thing is designed, within law, to remove at least 25% of the input ?
You are wise to go near them.
However, when Brit decimalasation of coins appeared, me and my mates discovered that the new half P’s would go into the machine as a “tanner”. The old sixpence
In the chip shop.
He therefore had pockets full of half pennies from his Mothers’ wool shop, and won loads of silver, until it started dumping the half P’s out in the payout tray thing.
The proprieter was not amused, so I guess we are still banned from the Ipswich chippy. From many years ago.

In general, have a raffle for charity, whatever, but never spend your life in a smoky betting office. It is daft.

Beats me, I’d rather gamble on myself! I heard of someone spending £3,000 in one week, that’s a lot of pound coins!!! I used to tell my husband, I’d be better throwing my money up the street, I have more chance of a return than when he played them!! He did win now and again, but not often enough for my liking!!

you live in hope of winning, as its small amounts ,you think its only copper, but over minuets it all add’s up, for the small amount of winnings , cost’s out weigh it, same as “answer’s” you try to go up a level but it’s free

I think the answer to your question would be the fact that fruit/slot machines have been very cleverly design to be as addictive as possible.

They use;

metal trays -(to sound like your winning more than you are.
Light sounds -(which generaly give the impresion of ‘fun’)
are design to payout every so often (to delude people to think they can win big.)

to me that’s the worst form of gambling. i knew someone who spent his whole time on fruit machines. he would put his money in over a period of a few days and end up skint for the rest of the week. as far as i know he has been doing that for years. you would think he would learn. but i can’t understand why people do it.
