I’m wondering what is it that slot machines have that attracts people. I don’t play these machines, that’s why I would like to know why these machines are so popular.
I like the video slots because they have mini games that you can ply when you hit a certain combination, and there are more reels and ways to bet, so you have a larger chance of winning something.
I think video slots are way more fun than those stupid 3 reel slots in las vegas where all they have is “bars” and stuff.. those ones are borring.
It’s fun and they generally pay off ‘eventually’. These machines are designed to keep you playing so they pay off a little to keep you around. It’s pretty addicting - my husband and I enjoy playing the slot machines but you have to be REALLY careful.
They are addicted to the fleeting moment of hope that they will hit the jackpot. It dies when they lose, but it can be instantly revived by the pull of the one-arm bandit.
I have no idea. We played once when we lived in Kansas City, and I couldn’t really get into it. I didn’t think it was that fun. We wated quite a bit of money pretty fast, and it was like we didn’t even do anything… Pull a knob, lose your paycheck… No fun…
It’s the thrill of hitting the “big one”. It’s the same reason people play the lottery and other gambling machines. It’s like a quick fix. People play so they can get money real fast without having to work for it. If you’ve ever been to a casino you’ll notice the lights, bells, and the whole atmosphere. That atmosphere can be quite inviting.
It’s hard to explain, but it’s the excitement and thrill of seeing each little icon come down in each of the three windows. Especially if in the first 2 windows you have the same icon (hearts or diamonds, etc.). My stomach gets all nervous and I can’t wait to push the button again and again. It is very addicting and I can honestly say that I am glad I don’t live close to any casinos! There are so many different types of slot machines. You just have to move on to see what happens at each one. But, the true trick is to stay at one machine for a very long time. Eventually, it will pay off. That’s what one of the clerks who work there told me. He said that you should stay at one machines for at least 2-3 hours and it will pay off. After it does, stay and play the same one for about another 30 minutes and it will pay off again - not as much as the first time, though. Gosh, I’m jealous, my sister and her husband just left for Vegas this afternoon. I want to go so badly!!!! I promised my son for his 21st birthday, I would take him gambling. Well, he’s 22 1/2 and I still have not taken him. My bills have to come first. He knows that I will take him eventually. I have to prioritize my spending and unfortunately, gambling comes pretty low on my list.
They are popular because they make a lot of money for casinos. But they are also popular with players because they are simple and provide the chance to win a life changing amount of money. There are machines in Vegas where you can insert $5 and win $12,000,000. That’s a hell of a return. There are other machines where you can win several million for just a dollar.
Slots can also be interesting with fun games on them and there is always that anticipation of making a big win.
Lots of serious gamblers or poker players like to mock slot players, but I’ve played from time to time and have won several jackpots of $500. I’ve never hit it big, but I don’t mind an occasional long shot at a chance to win millions. It’s really no different than a lottery ticket or a scratch card.
Honestly to some extent I would almost rather play a slot than many table games. The table games have better odds, but there is rarely that shot at a major prize as there is with slots.
But my favorite game is poker. It’s the best choice, since the house has no interest in who wins. All other games are basically sucker games, since the odds are always against you.

They are fun. Especially Video Slots.

Because they do all of the thinking for you and they’re quick. They’re also a quick way to lose money, at least they are for me.

Because they are FUN!
Some of the new video slot machines are very entertaining.
Some of the bonus games are almost like a video game.
Now you have slot machines that have themes (Star Wars, Monopoly, Alien) they appeal to many groups of people.
Then if by chance you hit a jackpot, it makes it even more exciting.
You have to view slot machines as a form of entertainment, play what you can afford to loose and have a good time.
